Fire in the Sky

image

My Grampy Miller used to say
Pink sky at night ‘sailors delight’
Pink sky in the morning ‘sailors heed warning’

It’s a crisp morning in the Capital city currently sitting at -11. The good news is that we are expecting sunshine and +4 and the morning sky looks incredible!

My youngest daughter and I just burst out into song singing Trooper “We’re here for a good time! ”

Sending them to school with a belly full of bacon and eggs and a smile.

My coffee is ready…it’s a good morning! !

Seeing Clearly-Weekly Photo Challenge:Focus

For this challenge, get out there and take a picture demonstrating the concept of focus. Depending on your skill level or type of camera, tinker with the manual settings, use the auto focus feature, or play around with an app. Some ideas:Snap a photo of something or someone in focus, against a blurred background.Share a panorama or landscape in sharp focus, in which you can see details far away.Use a camera app to force focus (or blur) in an experimental way.Take multiple photos of the same scene or subject using different aperture settings and publishing the results.

For this challenge the subject is my beautiful nine year old daughter Haley who embodies everything sweetness and light. The first picture is the original, she looks so innocent and wistful. The following photos play with focus and sharpness as well as different light and color schemes. Am I not a photographer but I do have fun taking and editing photos on my Samsung Galaxy 4 and my subject is pretty amazing!

Weekly Photo Challenge’-One Shot, two ways

One Shot, Two Ways. This week, photographer Jeff talked about his process of finding the best shot. Before taking a picture, he studies his scene — looking at a shot horizontally (as a landscape) and vertically (as a portrait). With this honed, critical eye, he decides what orientation works best for his photograph. For this challenge, capture two images — a horizontal and a vertical version — of the same scene or subject. There are no concrete “rules” here, but a) it should be evident that both shots are of the same place/location or person/thing, and b) your photographs should ideally have been taken during the same shoot — where’s the challenge if you’re just plucking out pictures of a particular location or person from your archives?

I chose my garden as the subject, in particul a whimsical pink poppy. Flowers are so delicate and beautiful and you can capture something totally different when viewing from different angles. I took a portrait shot and a landscape looking from above.

Weekly Photo Challenge-Foreshadow

Cut to the hot hot summer of 2012. We could see it coming in our rearview mirror: this bruise blooming, darkening the sky as it gained speed and intensity. It turned bright sunshine into strange green light as we raced down the highway in a bid to outrun a Canadian prairie thunderstorm. In a post created specifically for this challenge, post a photograph that evokes FORESHADOW to you.

Pink sky at night sailors delight, pink sky in morning sailors warning.

Morning Fresh-Weekly Photo Challenge-FRESH

Fresh. The definition for fresh has a bit of a fork in it – it’s a state (new, recent, previously unknown) and it’s a taste or sensation (cool, sweet, invigorating, refreshing). Fresh is definitely this cantaloupe (“melone”) granita I enjoyed recently here in Italy. It cooled me down immensely (and it didn’t hurt that it was delicious, too!) I’m going to let the Daily Post community divide however you want with this – which definition will you go with? Show us what you got! In a new post specifically for this challenge, share a photo which means FRESH to you!

Every morning I like to check for new blooms. This beauty greeted me this morning.  Fresh and new! Yellow is my favorite color, it symbolizes everything brilliant, vibrant and essential to me.

This is a picture I took in Seattle in March. I love the way the lights dance with the pavement at nightfall,  it created something special.
